Puntagave Spirit Seltzers

Puntagave Spirit Seltzers

It’s been a minute or two since we’ve sipped anything on the rocks, but it’s time to bring back this series with a refreshing summer cocktail! As the weather warms up and the days extend, nothing sounds more appealing than a carbonated boozy beverage to wind down with on the weekend. So, what will we be having? Puntagave Spirit Seltzers.

I was recently introduced to these canned tequila beverages in the flavors Meyer Lemon Ginger and Grapefruit Peach, which I discovered on Instagram. Both are made with 100% blue agave tequila and are 5% alcohol. They may have a lower percentage of alcohol for a cocktail, but I found this appealing since they have such a crisp, clean taste and wasn’t too strong. While some popular spiked seltzers are made with malt liquor, Puntagave values high-quality ingredients—they produce their own tequila in Los Altos with highland grown agave— and what you get is a perfectly balanced ready-to-drink cocktail.

As for the flavors, I preferred the Meyer Lemon Ginger. My go-to cocktail is a tequila soda with lemon juice, so this elevated version certainly delivered without being too sweet. It wasn’t bitter or tart either but had a slight kick with the ginger in it. When it came to the Grapefruit Peach, the notes of peach were powerful, while I didn’t taste too much of the grapefruit. This one tasted sweeter to me, but still very refreshing. You could drink either directly out of the can, but I preferred them in a glass over ice. The company also does a RTD cocktail with mezcal, which I l definitely want to try. As for drinking a spirit by itself on the rocks, I hope to be sipping their Rustic and Artisanal spirits for my next backyard gathering. We’ll see you back to cheers soon!
